Our Mission

Making it SAFER for all!

Project SAFER (Special Assistance For Emergency Response) helps people who experience intellectual/developmental disabilities (IDD).

SAFER provides information to Clallam County First Responders.

SAFER creates inclusive encounters.

Care givers, community partners, family, and individuals provide vital information. SAFER shows ways to help on a form that honors HIPAA guidelines.

SAFER helps First Responders communicate, approach, and interact in an emergency.

Police, fire, and emergency responders learn ways to best help people who experience intellectual/developmental disabilities (IDD).

SAFER Event

The SAFER Kick-Off Event at the Clallam County Fair in Port Angeles was a great success! On hand were First Responders and people involved in Community Resource Programs as well as many emergency vehicles. To view images and a video, go to the Event, First Responders, and Video pages above.

What People Say

Project SAFER was an awesome opportunity for our community to bring together students and families with collaborative agencies. For me I saw an environment rich with a homecoming event that brought people closer. I would love to be a part of this continued tradition. - Gary Fraser, Assistant Director Special Services, OESD114
I am most excited for the collaboration with the Clallam County Sherrif’s Office and the creation of the ‘Project Safer Response Form.’ It is such a brilliant idea to give the option to families to create a profile of the disabled individual so first responders are able to pull up their information and understand how to respond and communicate with them immediately. -Jen Mackey, Special Education Teacher, Sequim High School
What an incredible event. Bringing a community together to this magnitude was amazing. Giving the community a chance to interact with the county stake holders, county providers and first responders lend great learning moments for all of us. Very well done to all involved. - Steven Hughes Regional Manager Morningside
